Blogging the Next Generation: Picard — “Mercy”

This entry was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, this television series wouldn’t exist. To learn more, visit the WGA strike hub and the SAG-AFTRA strike site.

“Humans. They’re all trapped in the past.”

Here’s a fun idea. What if Mulder & Scully figured out that Picard and his idiot friends were time-travellers from the future, in 2024? That’s kind of what “Mercy” tries to do; Guinan and Picard are shanghaied by the local X-Files office of whereverthefuck they are, and have to talk their way out. Scully isn’t there, of course; we don’t even get John Doggett (which would have ruled). This is Star Trek: Picard, and therefore, it sucks — but then, it would certainly have sucked on the tenth or eleventh season of The X-Files, too. Hmmm. Maybe we should just stop doing this legacy sequel shit? Now that would be a mercy!

Blogging the Next Generation: Picard runs Thursdays on tederick.com as I work my way through every episode of Star Trek: Picard. The original BTNG did the same for Star Trek: The Next Generation.
